The Bong is Back in Time for Extended 4/20 Festivities: EVIL BONG 666

Today… I feel like Usher in 2004. “This is my confession” and I have to tell the world. I love Full Moon Pictures! From the heavy hitters (Puppetmaster and Trancers) to the underseen (Demonic Toys and Dollman). The contribution that Charles Band and Co. has made is undeniable. They have built one of the most prolific libraries in the history of B-Films and filled more space in rental stores than anyone else. That doesn’t mean that they haven’t failed, but they are always swinging for the fences and are never boring. Yes, I was enjoying my 4/20 goodies from Higher Grounds, but I swear that did not influence my decision making more than usual. Through good and bad, they will always be one of my favorites. Now that I have that off of my chest I am ready to get around to the movie in question. Evil Bong 666

This franchise is definitely not the best that Full Moon has to offer, but it is definitely one of the most outrageous. The titular “Evil Bong” is a foul mouthed puppet that has gone from mildly annoying to (almost) likeable. How this series has made it through 6 films is a mystery to me, but who cares… its a lot of fun. Movies are art, but not all art has to be serious or even great to be enjoyed. The “EB” series is anything but boring and that will be the barometer of this review. With all of that rambling, I am trying to say that Evil Bong 6 is a bad movie that I loved all of the way through.

We pick up after the events of High 5 and we are introduced to the newest owner of the weed shop. This time around it is a sexy little Satanist who goes by the (not so clever) name of Lucy Furr and she loooooves Satan. After loosing her temper and making a human sacrifice, “EeBee” is brought back from hell and is ready to kill. Through confusing and ridiculous reasons, we end up with a lot of familiar characters from the Full Moon catalog teaming up. The gang ends up opening a gate to hell and what happens next could destroy the world (or something?).

The film is shot poorly and is clearly low budget, but leave it to Charles Band to make this work in the movie’s favor. Instead of going for any semblance of a coherent film he chooses to use it as a chance to celebrate some of his company’s most iconic characters. If you have seen a lot of these films you will dig seeing Killjoy and others crossover and if you haven’t, you wont care at all.

What is best about EB 666 is the silly dialogue. Everyone explains their roles and intentions in a great deconstruction of bad movie archetypes. Bizarre rich people come through, explaining that they are rich. Sexual deviants and perverts occupy these lesser roles and offer a few chuckles too. The jokes don’t all work, but there are so many that eventually one will stick. The introduction of Lucy Furr works fantastically. Mindy Robinson gives this character so much life and her huge performance is infinitely watchable. So if you want to visit “Sexy Hell” and have an hour to burn, then check out Evil Bong 666.
