NMM SoundBytes: Fill Your “Heart Shaped Hole” with Alya’s Dreamy Pop Tune

Before I kickstart the day with my typical punk rock fuel, this Monday called for a dreamy wakeup track. I couldn’t think of a better one than “Heart Shaped Hole”, Alya’s first single from her latest album Ten Years of Solitude. For those unfamiliar with the indie songstress, this song is a pretty great place to start, but it’s surely not to be the last track you listen to.

Ten Years of Solitude is a fantastic album of indie pop tunes with influences ranging from dance and electronic to folk singer-songwriters. More than any other comparison, her sound really reminds me of Sia. And, from a huge Sia fan, this should be read as nothing less than a huge compliment and proof that Alya has a fan in me. While I enjoy the album front to back, I can’t help but continue to gravitate back to the first single – and first track I heard from the album – because it has an infectious quality reminiscent of Sia’s earlier work with Zero 7.

So, if you’re in need for a dreamy tune to slowly rise to your feet on this Monday morning or a song to help take a little contemplation break from life’s insanity, Alya’s “Heart Shaped Hole” is as good a choice as any you will find.

After he stopped regularly running local concerts in Northern NJ and the greater Philly area, he knew he needed to step up his writing game if he expected to continue to get free music to listen to. He writes regularly here and at Cinapse, as well as contributing to a few other sites on occasion. He likes music, film, the Philadelphia Eagles, the 76ers, talking about Criminal Justice, reading Intelligence Report, and his family... not in that order. His beautiful wife is far more talented than he is and his kids far more adorable... and crazy.
