NMM SoundBytes: Blueanimal’s “Rock Bottom” Reminds Us All That We Are Not Alone

The latest offering from Blueanimal is darker, grungier, and deeper than the work they’re primarily known for. Songwriter, guitarist, and lead vocalist Luke Elms notes:

Our world is in the midst of a pandemic of COVID-19. But, an epidemic that was present before COVID, and will unfortunately still be raging after, is the epidemic of mental health issues and the struggles of public perception, awareness, and stigma that comes along with it.

His message is clear. He further explains why he focused the album the way he did.

My hope is this album can help take people on a journey through this character’s struggle that will allow those that have fortunately not experienced mental health issues to gain a better understanding and those that are currently struggling to not feel so alone.

Blueanimal’s “Rock Bottom” is the first single from their upcoming album, Figment That Was Me. Accompanying the song are two videos, both an official music video and a lyric video to focus on the powerful words of the track. The band’s official music video, from Geoff Gibbons of Blue Cafe Music, explores the song’s themes and brings to life the inward struggle of those attempting to cope with mental health issues. The band asserts that the video not only uses the rocks to demonstrate the bottom, but also the “underlying determination to break through.”

You can watch the official music video yourself, as well as the lyric video below:

Justin has been running websites since his first Geocities site in 1994, but only did he ever start covering anything of substance years later. After he stopped regularly running local concerts in Northern NJ and the greater Philly area, he knew he needed to step up his writing game if he expected to continue to get free music to listen to. He writes regularly here and at Cinapse, as well as contributing to a few other sites on occasion. He likes music, film, the Philadelphia Eagles, the 76ers, talking about Criminal Justice, reading Intelligence Report, and his family... not in that order. His beautiful wife is far more talented than he is and his kids far more adorable... and crazy.
