NMM SoundBytes: Barista Gets “Sweet” PRESS REWIND

With a clear penchant and love for rock music of various shapes, sizes, and sounds, Istanbul’s Barista has dropped a particularly sweet and sonically smooth new single to lead his release of his latest EP, Open Sesame Vol 2: Press Rewind. The release is the second of five volumes in his Open Sesame project. With a stellar lineup of musicians and a fresh sound, the EP feels equally inspired by grunge rock, an array of 70s and 80s rock ranging from Toto to Journey, and Barista’s Turkish folk roots.

The single, aptly titled “Sweet” feels like what I imagine Soundgarden channeling their inner Brian Wilson may feel like. With a taste of Bowie and a little bit of Supertramp, “Sweet” presents a fun way to jump into the Open Sesame project. Check out the video below or over at Barista’s YouTube page.

Barista surrounds himself with a truly accomplished group of musicians who have spent time with Kenny Loggins, Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver, and a host of big name pop and rock artists. The full and beautiful sound of the track and the EP surely show the level of musicianship you’d expect from the impressive troupe. You can check out Open Sesame Vol 2: Press Rewind in its entirety on Spotify.

Justin has been running websites since his first Geocities site in 1994, but only did he ever start covering anything of substance years later. After he stopped regularly running local concerts in Northern NJ and the greater Philly area, he knew he needed to step up his writing game if he expected to continue to get free music to listen to. He writes regularly here and at Cinapse, as well as contributing to a few other sites on occasion. He likes music, film, the Philadelphia Eagles, the 76ers, talking about Criminal Justice, reading Intelligence Report, and his family... not in that order. His beautiful wife is far more talented than he is and his kids far more adorable... and crazy.
