“Do You” Like Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Soul? Perry’s Got You Covered

Norwalk CT’s Perry plays groovy instrumental jams that blend hiop-hop, jaz, soul, and pop to create a unique sound they call “Neo-Retro”. You can call their sound whatever you like, but I can assure you that it’ a sound that will force you to sway and vibe to the rhythm. As the alter-ego project of accomplished jazz musico Max Clemmons Jr., it has the smooth flow that you may hear while stuck on hold or riding an elevator, but with a hip-hop backdrop that transcends the overall feel into something both unique and unforgettable.

The latest release, an 8 song joint called Maximize, ranges from upbeat and dancey tracks to easy listening tracks that take you away, but the vibe is always smooth and always positive. In fact, positivity may be the most prevalent thing the listener can feel when listening to Maximize… at least, that is the case for this critic turned fan.

The opening track, “Do You”, sets the tone. The groove, the flow, the way it takes you to another place… a perfect way to kick off the album and a perfect introduction into what’s in store for your next 35 minutes, as you embark on the journey of Perry’s Maximize.

Justin has been running websites since his first Geocities site in 1994, but only did he ever start covering anything of substance years later. After he stopped regularly running local concerts in Northern NJ and the greater Philly area, he knew he needed to step up his writing game if he expected to continue to get free music to listen to. He writes regularly here and at Cinapse, as well as contributing to a few other sites on occasion. He likes music, film, the Philadelphia Eagles, the 76ers, talking about Criminal Justice, reading Intelligence Report, and his family... not in that order. His beautiful wife is far more talented than he is and his kids far more adorable... and crazy.
