New Music Monday: Red Bird Rising Invites You to Join the Revolution

With guest vocalist Taras Kuznetsov and guest bassist Ana Pshokina – Ukranian husband and wife musicians – joining him, South American producer, songwriter, and multi-faceted artist Red Bird Rising decided that his talents could be best used at this time to speak out for the Ukranian people and what they are going through right now. Inspired by the plight of the people of Odessa, whose home was taken over by the Russian forces, Diedrich Donald Weiss – aka Red Bird Rising – took to the audio and video mediums to sing of revolution, both in a metaphorical and literal sense.

After reaching out to Taras, Diedrich worked with him and his wife Ana to pen this song that is both about love and standing up against oppression. With the release of the song comes a powerful video filmed in Odessa, which you can watch below. Additionally, Red Bird Rising released the lyrics for everyone to take in and experience fully:

There are days I dream of leaving for good
Passport be damned, take all I can
Get out now like I should
Poor me, my life is stuck underground
Well I was given a gun, I can take out some Russian
Bring those reptiles down
My revolution, My revolution begins
My revolution, My revolution begins in my world within
There are times you know we all need a rest
Can’t lose my mind, checking the headlines
Play my piano instead
Good good, they haven’t yet bombed my home
But I can not go out, so I rule my own house
Work like a bee in honeycomb
My revolution, My revolution begins
My revolution, My revolution begins in my world within
If it wasn’t for you, you are enough, my love
If it wasn’t for you, you are enough, my love
I can’t just go along, I can’t just sing this song
My revolution, My revolution begins
My revolution, My revolution begins in my world within

A believer in love, art, and the magic of collaboration, Dietrich has created something powerful and, indeed, magical. Red Bird Rising’s “My Revolution” is a powerful way to kick off your week.

After he stopped regularly running local concerts in Northern NJ and the greater Philly area, he knew he needed to step up his writing game if he expected to continue to get free music to listen to. He writes regularly here and at Cinapse, as well as contributing to a few other sites on occasion. He likes music, film, the Philadelphia Eagles, the 76ers, talking about Criminal Justice, reading Intelligence Report, and his family... not in that order. His beautiful wife is far more talented than he is and his kids far more adorable... and crazy.
