“Hope Springs” Us into the Weekend with Tenuous Threads
My favorite story from Stephen King is Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, know to most of the world simply as Shawshank Redemption because that is what the fantastic film adaptation of the story was titled. The original story was subtitled “Hope Springs Eternal” – and, from the first time I read the collection of stories that it was featured in (1982’s Different Seasons), I always loved this phrase. It became somewhat of a moniker for me. In fact, to this very day, I try to live a life filled with hope… even when work, life, and every thrown our way makes having hope a difficult task.
As the workweek wraps up this week, I find myself focusing greatly on my need for hope. Hope for a 3-day weekend away from work, hope for an upcoming 2 week break from work and daily stresses later this month, hope for the next season of my life and where I’m headed. I suspect that many of you reading this can relate. Hope doesn’t always seem easy to come by, but it’s there. We just need to tap into it.
For me, the reminder that hope spring eternal comes from “Hope Springs”, a great electronic jam from Aussie alternative artists Tenuous Threads. The blend of EDM, alt rock, and ambient soundscapes of their new EP, Mettle, is a truly fantastic experience. Those who came up in the 90s like myself are sure to find a familiar feel, but there are also more modern sounds and earlier influences present. The resulting sound is uplifting and powerful.
So remember, as we head into another weekend, leaving this workweek behind us… “Hope Springs” eternal…
