Taking a Little Down Time with Marc-E
No, I don’t get high. In fact, I never really have. However, I do enjoy flying away in my own head to a soundtrack of psychedelic electronica made by the like of Vancouver’s Marc-E. His downtempo, trip-hop beats with interwoven alien soundscapes, indie rock guitars, world music, musical lasers, deep drums, and bluesy riffs aren’t simply unique – they take me to another place.
The aptly named new release, Catharsis, is an emotional spiritual journey that will take you to the brink if you let it. Casual listens will certainly yield positive, albeit casual, results. However, if you close your eyes and surrender yourself to the sound, your experience could be truly transcendent. One who dabbles in psychedelic drugs may find themselves in a truly euphoric state, but that’s for you to find out on your own… due to my aforementioned limitations in such experiences.
For me, though, the music does all the heavy lifting that I need to embark on a a journey or relaxation, exploration, and (even, perhaps) rejuvenation. As I begin my personal Christmas vacation, a break from the daily grind that I try to take each year from Christmas through New Year’s, I kick it off with this album, a glass of lemon ginger tea, and a soak in my hot tub. And, for the experience, I can’t help but thank Marc-E for his 8 tracks of guidance through my personal meditation that will launch me into a week and change of family time, recharging my batteries, and no work days in sight.
Standout tracks: “Acceptance”, “Ethereal Glade”, and “Seeds of Faith (Isolation Mix)”
