The Cinematic Vision of Montreal’s Tanuki Project
Some may call it trip-hop, others may call it downtempo – but, whatever you call it, Tanuki Project’s Adamant CHAPTER#01 is a lush and beautiful audio and video project from a pair of creative visionaries that is set out to blend beautiful soundscapes with fantastic visuals sure to wow fans of great music and film alike.
In their words, Adamant is “a cinematic electronic tale” and this first four track chapter is a fantastic way to start. The band’s entire vision is cinematic, even as they describe how to take in the first chapter:
Head-up, soul wide, gliding across the plain. Present Senses searching. Watching, breathing, hearing, Bare feet feeling the earth, Heart rooted in nature. Life nasty, brutish and short. But at least aware, at least alive, at least here.
Whether you take it in with the visuals given to you or close your eyes and visualize it yourself, the EP feels very cinematic. However, if you choose to take in their extremely well crafter visuals along with the music, you can start with the music video they made with director Thomas Castaing, a treat of precise and gorgeous cinematography that blends a variety of landscapes, scenes, and shots into somehting that could easily win awards at many a film festival. To simply call it a music video would be diminishing its power as a short film.
Since the time of this beautiful EP and accompanying short film’s release, the second chapter has also released. You can purchase or stream both over at the duo’s Bandcamp page now.
