The Nylon Admirals Will Sink Their “Butcher’s Hook” Into You
While The Nylon Admirals are far from a household name, some many know them from their fantastic cover of fellow Seattleites Soundgarden. Blending electronic sounds with classic instrumentation and unique tonal experiments, their sound is unique, playful, and at times truly mesmerizing. They have dubbed their music “electronic music for THRILL seekers” and it’s certainly an apt description. This is especially true when pair with the unique animated music video for their latest release, “Butcher’s Hook”.
With a title that is derived from the Cockney slang describing the large meathooks used to hang slabs of meat or animal carcasses waiting to be butchered, the song is influenced by the theme songs of 70s British television. Seemingly a score of a fast paced chase seen in a detective show of that time and era, the song employs the one-of-a-kind tones of the dulcimer with a backdrop that feels like progressive rockers obsessed with keyboard and early video game music. Besides feeling at home on 70s BBC programming, the song could easily have been take from your favorite Konami game in the 80s… except with a craft that those 8-bit tunes could never fully capture.
