SoundBytes: Cosmopolis Radiates Maturity with New Music Video for “Nixon-Mason”
We begin with the band’s introduction of their new track “Nixon-Manson”:
It’s probably the closest we shall ever come to writing a musical – albeit the darkest and scariest musical you’ll ever experience. We are fascinated with the late 1960s, and wanted to convey in words and music an era dominated by political corruption, the death of idealism, the crumbling of empire, and some moments of pure evil that changed popular culture forever.
Blending post-punk music with trip-hop beats and grooves, the sound on this latest Cosmopolis tracks shares are much with the dark and trippy electronic sounds of Tricky as it does with post-punks like Bauhaus and proto-punks like Velvet Underground. With a bass line that won’t quit and a hypnotic soundscape in the back, synths and guitars overlayed on top, and an emotive but subdued vocal lead, “Nixon-Manson” is groovy, ominous, and infectious all at once.
The new music video that accompanies the track captures the feel and style of the song brilliantly. The band hails from all over the world, but through the power of modern technology, they create a unified sound that feels as if one voice. Check out the video below, then make sure to dig into their catalog at the link below the video, as the band is currently donating all proceeds to the Ukraine relief effort.
