Previewing BHFF 2018 Part 4: A Look at Luke Jaden’s BOO! (31 Days, Day 5)
No, it’s not the one with Madea, this is a much different type of BOO! than anything by Tyler Perry. Luke Jaden’s OO! is something much different, for sure. Jaden describes the film:
Married with two kids, James and Elyse are struggling to keep it together. Along with the couple’s own rifts, their daughter, Morgan, is hiding her own suicidal thoughts, while younger son Caleb channels his suppressed emotions through troublingly macabre artwork. One night, their true test arrives: a strange Halloween game left on their doorstep that, legend has it, leaves a curse on those who choose not to play. Unfortunately, that’s the choice this family makes — and evil spirits of all kinds are ready to make them pay.
His feature debut, BOO! is emotional, dark, and well crafted. It’s a horror film that’s ultimately about something bigger and more real… family.
BOO! is a complex study on family and how a family must come together to overcome the dark forces of life’s inevitable storm.
Having honed his craft through writing, directing, and acting in several shorts prior to bringing this strong debut. In other words, he’s still young and developing his filmmaking skills, but he’s not some unpracticed novice. Horror clearly runs through Jaden’s body, it’s in his blood. And, he truly feels drawn to his chosen medium of film.
I love horror. Film is the most incredible and insane journey that once could experience. It’s relishing and painful and beautiful and dreamy and terrifying and empowering. It’s every single emotion imaginable. A trip to the unknown. Every single day, I learn and discover something new, which is why I love film. It’s magical.
The cast of BOO! features up and comer Aurora Perrineau (Truth or Dare, Jem and the Holograms), talented youngster Jaden Piner (Moonlight), Jill Marie Jones (TV’s Girlfriends), A Ghost Story‘s Rob Zabrecky, and Charley Palmer Rothwell (iBoy, Dunkirk). Working with a fantastic script and the direction of Jaden, the film has been garnering some early praise leading to it’s official premiere at BHFF.

The premiere is a dream come true for Jaden. He’s particularly excited to be playing alongside Luz, Piercing, Holiday, and the classic Sleepaway Camp, all of which he wants everyone to know are can’t miss films at this year’s fest.
