NMM SoundBytes: “My Love” by Eric Anders and Mark O’Bitz
Eric Anders and Mark O’Bitz have been recording together for a few years now, with this – American Bardo – their third full length as a duo. Inspired by George Saunders’s prize winning novel, Lincoln in the Bardo, Eric refers to the songs as “readings” of characters in the novel. As they’ve been working on another concept album focused on being stuck inside during the current COVID pandemic, they released this album in July. Of course, their upcoming album is being recorded from separate isolated locations, as they both respect the policies and procedures in place to protect us all – however, this one was recorded together in San Diego, CA.
The duo represents both Northern and Southern California with Anders hailing from No-Cal and O’Bitz from So-Cal. With a great deal of solo and other experience before forming their duo, they’ve had great success since combining their talents, including several songs in films and on TV. My current favorite track from their aforementioned newest album, “My Love”, is today’s SoundByte. A great way to kick off your week, “My Love” is a heartfelt pop-folk track with an alt-country influence and a decidedly indie rock feel. Listen to the song below and then grab the album over at the duo’s Bandcamp page if you feel so inclined.
