NMM SoundBytes: Will Jackson is “Good Enough”

Earlier today, it was released that the great American filmmaker, Richard Donner, passed away at 91 years old today. For me, his most iconic film will always be 1985’s The Goonies, a film that informed so much of what I would end up defining as the type of film I love. Full of wonder and adventure, The Goonies is an important film in my life. Thus, Cyndi Lauper’s Goonies theme is forever imprinted in my brain.

As I began singing those words in my head automatically, it dawned on me that it wasn’t the only song with a refrain of “good enough” that I’d been listening to lately, as Will Jackson’s latest release Songs From the Briarpatch has been mixed into my daily rotations on Spotify for the past few weeks and his single “Good Enough” is among my favorite tracks on the LP. So Cyndi’s voice in my head soon became Will’s and then I realized that I needed to share this delightful slice of Americana with all of the readers right now.

Nashville by way of Myrtle Beach’s Will Jackson plays a unique blend of folk, country, and pop that shares as much in common with Jack’s Mannequin as it does his downhome Southern roots. With a pop sensibility reminiscent of the aforementioned’s frontman Andrew McMahon, a country flavor of alt-country acts like Ryan Adams, and a Jack Johnson-like quality of catchy, fun tunes – Jackson represents the new school of Americana music that can be loved by country fans and country haters alike.

So, if you’re like me and need a good tune to take you away on this post-Independence Monday, start with Will Jackson. I suspect it will be “good enough” for you, too.

Justin has been running websites since his first Geocities site in 1994, but only did he ever start covering anything of substance years later. After he stopped regularly running local concerts in Northern NJ and the greater Philly area, he knew he needed to step up his writing game if he expected to continue to get free music to listen to. He writes regularly here and at Cinapse, as well as contributing to a few other sites on occasion. He likes music, film, the Philadelphia Eagles, the 76ers, talking about Criminal Justice, reading Intelligence Report, and his family... not in that order. His beautiful wife is far more talented than he is and his kids far more adorable... and crazy.
