Grapefruit and Amuka Make a Perfect Musical Fruit Salad
Grapefruit Sound Lab is NJ’s Robert Cotnoir. The NY native is a fan of virtually all styles of music, from classical to hard rock to funk and everything in between. Fueled by his love of music and desire to create, Cotnoir has honed his own sound as an electronic producer that blends sounds and styles together to create catchy and unique tracks. In his latest single, he enlists Sheila Brody aka Amuka. A P-Funk alum and members of the Brides of Funkenstein, Amuka has worked with the likes of Public Enemy, Peter Rauhofer, and John Mellencamp, among others. Her soaring vocals combine with Cotnoir’s musical lansdcape to create a fun and funky singalong pop track that’ll have even the most cynical toes a’tappin.
Grapefruit Sound Lab has a distinct sound reminiscent of acts like New Mexico’s The Echoing Green, renowned DJ BT, and the always enthralling Massive Attack – yet the sound is still its own. While not the first collaboration with Amuka, this may be the best. “Love Cards” has driving bass, soaring vocals, and an emotional core. As a teaser to the upcoming album from GSL, this will surely wet one’s proverbial whistle.
So, sit back and enjoy the music video for the “Love Cards”… and if you’re so inclined, pre-order the album on vinyl, due out in December!
