“She’s Sowing Time”: Husband and Wife Pen a Survivor Anthem

November 9th, 2021 is the day that I was diagnosed with rectal cancer. It is a day that is difficult to recall, yet impossible to forget. At first, it’s too surreal to actually comprehend and then the reality sneaks in and the raw emotional terror begins. The night is the worst. The time when you lay awake surrounded by silence, in the depth of loneliness and overwhelming fear of being swallowed up by the darkness. My husband’s hand, firmly clasped in mine to help still the beat of my pounding heart, I would lay in the quiet, praying for the sound of the song of birds to hush my fear as the morning broke. It was then, in the morning light, that I would gain hope and belief that there would be more time. It is the collision of terror and hope that are the force behind “She’s Sowing Time”. It is the terror that drives, but the hope that saves. That, and the love and strength of my husband who took my words and so brilliantly composed the music to create this song.

With lyrics penned by his wife (quoted above), Kim – Victoria BC’s Dale Sheppard has released a powerful anthem of strength and hope. Kim’s story is one of perseverance and strength through adversity. The duo released this new track to inspire hope and give support to others dealing with the extreme adversity that this world hurls at us.

Dale has been making music for decades and curating music for others to check out even longer. His love of music started young and has only strengthen as he’s grown and aged. With a wide variety of influences, this latest rock tune is saturated in post-punk flavor. His wife helps to write his lyrics quite often, so it was obviously natural for him to take a poem she’d written about this trying time and use it for the basis of a powerful new song. The pair is excited to be able to share their light with others and help people know they aren’t alone.

The song – and accompanying music video (above) – are available to stream and/or purchase via Bandcamp or Spotify.

Justin has been running websites since his first Geocities site in 1994, but only did he ever start covering anything of substance years later. After he stopped regularly running local concerts in Northern NJ and the greater Philly area, he knew he needed to step up his writing game if he expected to continue to get free music to listen to. He writes regularly here and at Cinapse, as well as contributing to a few other sites on occasion. He likes music, film, the Philadelphia Eagles, the 76ers, talking about Criminal Justice, reading Intelligence Report, and his family... not in that order. His beautiful wife is far more talented than he is and his kids far more adorable... and crazy.
