NMM SoundBytes: Jane Says… Listen to GORERUNNER
When a band’s press package includes a well placed and well shrouded Rickroll, you know you’re in for a treat, as far as I’m concerned. A good sense of humor is always a positive trait in a band, whether the music is serious and intense or lighthearted and fun. In the case of Jane in Space, the music feels dark and heavy, more than it feels easygoing, but that ability to take themselves lightly roll with the punches certainly does show.
The music itself is very reminiscent Nine Inch Nails, with hints of 80s new wave and 90s alternative rock. With tracks that also bring to mind the music of Stabbing Westward, Gravity Kills, and even Depeche Mode, Gorerunner is a fantastic album from this industrial rock duo. With powerful songs beginning to end, anyone who enjoys melodic industrial music will find a lot here to love.
In addition to these great songs, the band has paired their music to amazing images with in a couple a great music videos. First up is the video for “Eat Your Face”, directed by Permian Strata. There’s a cool use of computers and digital effects, blended with an old school feel about it. The video fits the song perfectly and it’s truly impressive.
The second music video is for another track on the new album, “Breaking Glass”. The video feels a bit more traditional in some ways, but equally works with the overall feel of the song. While the aesthetics of “Eat Your Face” video vibe with my personal tastes more, this video by Paul Bland is also fantastic.
Definitely consider checking out the whole album as soon as possible, but until then start with these two music videos right away and start your week off with some face melting industrial rock tunes.
